Our History: 50+ Years of Veterinary Medicine

Thanks to our wonderful clients and staff, we have been practicing veterinary medicine in Escondido, California, for more than 50 years. Originally known as Acacia Animal Hospital, the now Acacia Animal Health Center was founded in 1959.

Dr. Gary Gallerstein acquired the practice in June 1984 and expanded the animals treated at Acacia to include birds and other exotic pets. In November 1993, Acacia moved into a larger facility on Broadway, and the name changed to Acacia Animal Health Center, better reflecting the medical philosophy of our doctors and staff.

In February 2004, Dr. Carmine Bausone became a managing partner of Acacia. Dr. Bausone further expanded the services to include holistic medicine and veterinary acupuncture.

With continued growth and a desire to better serve our clients, we moved forward on the design and creation of the present location on Citracado Parkway in Escondido. We welcomed our first patients to the new facility on January 23, 2006.

We are grateful to our clients for our longevity, and thank you for choosing Acacia Animal Health Center for your pets’ primary health care, resort boarding, day camp, and training needs. We plan to continue providing you with the excellent service you have come to expect from us.
