Myofascial Release: Pet Physical Therapy That Relieves Pain Acacia Animal Health Center offers injured, aging, or recovering pets a unique therapeutic treatment called myofascial release. Myofascial release is a specific type of physical therapy, especially effective in treating acute and chronic pain conditions. This gentle treatment produces profound results in many animals with injuries or degenerative diseases. How Does It Work? Treating the body as a system, we understand that an injury to one area may produce symptoms in any other area. Myofascial release therapy addresses the fascia, or connective tissue, of the body and works to release restrictions. Fascia is very tough tissue that surrounds every muscle, bone, organ, nerve, and blood vessel. Gentle sustained pressure and movement therapy allows the fascia to relax and release these restrictions. Our practitioners are educated in proper body mechanics and movement, strength enhancement, and improved flexibility for the minimizing or elimination of pain in our patients. Pets who experience trauma, inflammation, or post-surgical pain respond well to this very gentle form of healing. The treatment is performed with the same impulse device used in VOM or veterinary chiropractic care. Used on humans and animals alike, myofascial release therapy allows the body to respond in a way that promotes more effective and rapid healing. For patients with degenerative disease such as arthritis, we often see improvements in flexibility and a reduction in pain.
